Our Mission

Our mission is to build an equitable sustainability framework that empowers schools to advance climate action and resilience from the student body to the Office of Education.

Our Vision

We envision a future where Marin’s 30,000+ students have the knowledge and skills to create a healthy, safe, and livable future. This new generation of environmentally literate and empowered global citizens will be ready to make their mark on a carbon-free future.

Why Schools?

Schools are more than places of learning — they’re the heart of our community and a powerful force in shaping a better future.

While schools prepare our children to succeed, they also play a surprising role in the climate crisis: school operations, food systems, transportation, and energy use all contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions.

But schools are also where real change can begin. They hold a unique position at the intersection of education, infrastructure, and community life. This makes them not just part of the climate challenge—but key to the solution.

Children spend most of their waking hours at school. That means the choices we make on campuses—how we power buildings, manage waste, move to and from school, and shape learning—have a direct impact on their health, their future, and their understanding of the world around them.

When schools embrace sustainability, the benefits ripple outward.

Students bring what they learn home, influencing their families and neighborhoods. Greener campuses mean cleaner air, reduced emissions, and more resilient communities. Sustainable practices in schools can also reduce costs and free up resources for what matters most: student learning and well-being.
